Chairperson of District Legal Services Authority and Principal District and Sessions Judge B.S. Bharati has appealed to the litigants and advocates to make the best use of the National Lok Adalat programme to be held in the district on September 13.

Addressing presspersons in Dharwad on Saturday, Judge Bharati said that as on July 1, a total of 28,358 cases were pending for trial in Dharwad district courts and of them 725 were identified for mediation. Of them 328 cases were taken up for mediation among which 66 cases were resolved while 127 cases could not be settled, she said.

A 90-day nationwide mediation campaign was being held from July 1 to October 7 to resolve pending cases through mediation and conciliation. Participating in the National Lok Adalat, would help litigants in avoiding unnecessary delays and expenses, she said.

Judge Bharati said that as per the Supreme Court’s directive, a 50% concession on fines for traffic violations had been announced and appealed to the concerned to utilise the opportunity to pay the traffic e-challans to settle their cases.

President of Bar Association Ashok Enigi said that Lok Adalat offered an opportunity to settle pending cases in court amicably. Litigants with the help of conciliators could reach mutual agreements, reducing the complexities of legal procedures and ensuring easier resolutions, he said.

Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority and Senior Civil Judge Parashuram Doddamani said that apart from reducing the burden on judiciary, National Lok Adalat helped in delivering speedy justice.
