Opposition parties criticise DMK government on law and order situation in Tamil Nadu

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday expressed shock over the news of the arrest of Bharathi, a DMK functionary and president of Naryampattu panchayat in Tirupattur district on charges of stealing a gold chain from a co-passenger while travelling on a bus.
In a post on X, he alleged that the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin-led government has failed to maintain law and order and DMK functionaries being involved in criminal activities had become a regular occurrence. “Is a government run by a party with such people still necessary? In all the constituencies I visit, the public’s answer is ‘No!’,” Mr. Palaniswami remarked.
Attacks on politicians
BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran also flagged the issue of deteriorating law and order, citing the incidents of Puratchi Thamizhagam Katchi leader ‘Airport’ Moorthy being attacked near the Police Headquarters and attack on Aduthurai town panchayat chairman M.K. Stalin of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). He called for the arrests of those involved in the attack on Moorthy and urged the DMK government to come forward to rectify the law and order situation.
PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman also criticised the DMK government over the attack on Moorthy and called for action against those involved.
Pointing to the Aduthurai incident, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan said the law and order situation in the State was deteriorating and urged the government to ensure that law and order was maintained.
