Audi Concept C breaks cover as first electric roadster with retractable hardtop

Exterior Highlights: At the front, the grille carries Audi rings and integrates radar technology. Slim headlights feature four horizontal light elements, repeated at the rear for brand identity. Fenders flare subtly, and a long bonnet emphasises performance. Hidden door handles and oversized aero-optimised wheels define the profile. The rear has slats instead of a glass window, reducing weight. Finished in a Titanium shade, the exterior highlights precision and strength, as per the company.

Convertible Roof Concept: For the first time in an Audi roadster, an electrically retractable hardtop is used. It comprises two roof sections, allowing the car to shift from coupe-like solidity to open-top driving. This system combines the advantages of a convertible with the elegance of a monolithic body style. Horizontal roof lines also suggest potential for future Spyder models.

Minimalist Interior: Inside, the cabin is minimalist and functional. Physical controls are made from anodised aluminium, offering a precise mechanical feel. A 10.4-inch foldable display provides infotainment functions only when required. The steering wheel is circular, with haptic controls and Audi rings crafted from real metal. Surfaces use natural materials inspired by titanium tones. Ambient lighting highlights architectural shapes, while clear geometry ensures space for both occupants.

Technology Features: Audi applies “shy tech,” where technology supports but does not dominate. The foldable display appears only when needed, while intuitive haptic controls simplify interaction. Buttons and rotary dials on the steering wheel and console are positioned logically for clarity. Music flows through woven fabric surfaces instead of speaker grilles.

Legacy Connections: The Concept C draws on several historic Audi models. Its grille recalls the 1936 Auto Union Type C and 2004 Audi A6. The roofline echoes the R8, while its design hints at the TT lineage. Revamped Avus-inspired wheels add nostalgia. Elements such as the side charging flaps resemble the R8 “sideblade.”

Future Outlook: Audi has not released details on range, weight, or pricing. Reports suggest the Concept C may share a platform with Porsche’s delayed electric 718 Cayman and Boxster, expected in 2027. Production intent is clear, as the car includes standard tyres, mirrors, wipers, and number plate housing. The Concept C is expected to revive Audi’s status as a design leader and sports car maker, potentially wearing the iconic TT badge.
