Man electrocuted to death while adjusting Ganesh idol banner in Hyderabad

The victim, identified as K. Bharat, an auto driver, climbed onto a nearby building to adjust the banner that had slipped near Banjara Cafe. In the process, a rod he extended came in contact with an 11 kV power line. He was thrown off balance and died instantly around 3.30 p.m.

According to police, Bharat and three of his friends had set up the Ganesh idol at the Hanuman temple in the colony. Bharat is survived by his wife, a homemaker, and three children — a daughter and two sons — all below the age of ten.
Following the incident, family members and friends staged a march to the local office of the assistant engineer of the Electricity Department, alleging negligence on the part of officials. They demanded compensation, a government job for Bharat’s wife, and a double-bedroom house for the family, pointing out that Bharat earned a modest living as an auto driver. The Falaknuma police have registered a case and are investigating.
