A digital literacy programme was inaugurated at Thillaiyadi Thiyagi Valliammai Government Higher Secondary School in Mayiladuthurai district on Monday, benefitting 342 students of Classes VI to IX.

The initiative, supported by Fortess, a not-for-profit group made up of former TCS members and coordinated by Sevalaya, an NGO has created a computer lab at a cost of ₹5.34 lakh. The facility is equipped with 10 computers, software, and seating, and will host weekly classes on basic computer applications, robotics and related subjects by a qualified trainer.

The programme was inaugurated in the presence of P.R. Krishnan, secretary, Fortess, and former EVP, TCS; Venkatraman Ravi, member, executive council, Fortess, and CEO, Capricorn Consulting Center; and K. Kesavasamy, former ISRO scientist and education leader at TCS.

Headmaster M. Gopalakrishnan welcomed the gathering, while Sevalaya’s founder V. Muralidharan outlined the organisation’s activities.
