Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025: Defending champion Mumbai registers big win on opening day

A handful of teams registered big wins on the opening day of the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025, which marks the start of the domestic calendar for women’s cricket.

Defending champion Mumbai thrashed Jammu & Kashmir by eight wickets on Wednesday, with Jagravi Pawar, last edition’s player of the final, picking up a handy three-wicket haul in a low-scoring match.

Bengal, runner-up from last season, lost to Madhya Pradesh by five wickets. MP’s Anushka Sharma starred with the ball, taking three wickets, to ensure Bengal managed only 119.

Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, semifinalists in 2024, suffered losses in the opening round. While Himachal lost by eight wickets to Karnataka, Uttarakhand fell short by 13 runs against Goa.

India international Shreyanka Patil was part of the winning Karnataka side, finishing with a spell of 1/21 in four overs. She entered the contest fresh off helping Barbados Royals complete a three-peat in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League.

Meanwhile, Shafali Verma, who was left out of India’s ODI World Cup squad, scored a 41-ball 70 for Haryana. After posting 175, Haryana went on to beat Tripura by 76 runs.
