Actor and producer Kriti Sanon recently spoke about her plans to support films that highlight important social issues through meaningful storytelling. Now stepping into the role of a producer, Sanon said she hoped to create movies that entertain while also sparking conversations about real-life challenges.

Kriti Sanon wishes to produces films that highlight social issues; says, “If a film can be both engaging and thought-provoking, it can leave a lasting impact”Speaking about her transition behind the camera, Sanon explained that she was still learning the ropes. “I’m new to producing, so I had to learn on the job, just like I did with acting,” she said. “It didn’t matter whether I was a woman or a man—I needed to know my work. I was curious and excited to understand how things function behind the scenes.”

Sanon, who was recently appointed UNFPA India’s Ambassador for Gender Equality, said her decision to back socially relevant stories was a natural next step. Her debut production, Do Patti, tackled the theme of domestic violence and starred Kajol in a leading role. She noted that issues like property rights for women and gender discrimination are rarely discussed in mainstream cinema, and that she wanted to help bring those stories to the forefront.

“There are so many topics that deserve attention. For example, in many families, girls are often left out when it comes to inheritance. These are real issues,” she said. “If a film can be both engaging and thought-provoking, it can leave a lasting impact—especially on young audiences.” Sanon said she sees cinema as a powerful tool to influence thought and create awareness, especially when combined with strong storytelling.
