Tiruchi reader’s mail – The Hindu

It is hoped that the authorities will take permanent measures to tackle the problem of foul odour emanating from the Panjapur STP, causing difficulties to commuters at the newly constructed Integrated Bus Stand at Panjapur in Tiruchi. With the expansion of the city and after decades of search, this site was found suitable for Integrated Bus Stand. The underground drainage system is capital-intensive, requires highly skilled staff and workmen for its daily operation and maintenance. The underground drainage systems in various parts of the country are regularly facing problems due to floods or poor maintenance.

Need train connectivity
For more than two decades, people of Tiruchi have been demanding an intercity express to Bangalore. But it remains unfulfilled for the reasons best known to the Southern Railway administration. At present Tiruchi is connected to Bangalore by only two trains, neither of which originates from the city. Tiruchi being the headquarters of the division, it is imperative that a day express should be operated from here.

Railways to bring onboard announcements
The Railways should introduce the system of making onboard announcements on the next arriving stations in all night express trains for the benefit of passengers.

Water stagnation
It is good that the Tiruchi Corporation has started construction of storm water drains, in hitherto uncovered areas. I request the authorities to include the three streets in SBI Staff colony, Crawford. Residents here are facing hardship due to water stagnation during monsoon.

To rename road
The State government is giving importance to Tamil development. But in Tiruchi, the West Boulevard Road is retained in English. The Tiruchirappalli Tamil Sangam is situated along the road and functioning there for more than 70 years. The road can be renamed as Tiruchirappalli Tamil Sangam Road.

Bad roads
We, the residents of Solayappa Street in Ward 13 in Kumbakonam are facing difficulties as the road on the street was not milled and relaid properly. Over 300 families residing along the street and nearby areas commute through the street. The road is damaged at several places. We request the authorities to repair the road at the earliest.

Need regular police patrolling
It is a matter of concern that some miscreants are pelting stones at vehicles passing through the bypass roads in Kumbakonam and Thanjavur in the early morning hours, particularly between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. This endangers the lives of travellers, besides causing damage to the vehicles. Such incidents not only create fear and insecurity among the public but also pose a threat to road safety, and law and order. Regular police patrolling should be carried out on the highways.

To publicise legal services clinics
Legal services clinics are a powerful tool for helping render justice for all people. The functioning of the 24-hour clinic opened recently in Tiruchi must be well publicised so as to enable the poor and needy to utilise its services well.
