Krish Jagarlamudi on Ghaati & reuniting with Anushka Shetty; reveals, “The story convinced Anushka, not me” : Bollywood News

Ghaati is a big treat for fans of Anushka Shetty as she hardly does any films these days. How did you convince her? How was the experience of working with her again?
Honestly, I didn’t have to convince Anushka. The story did. Her character in the movie, Sheelavathi, spoke to her instantly. She connected deeply with Sheelavathi’s journey — from being a victim to a criminal, and ultimately a legend. Anushka only chooses roles that challenge her as an actor, and this was one of them. Working with her again after Vedam was a joy; she brings immense grace and power to the screen. Beyond that, she’s a wonderful human being.

Ghaati gave me the chance to step into a world I had never explored before. It’s raw, rooted, and deeply emotional. The setting — the Eastern Ghats on the Andhra–Odisha border, and the “ghatees” who inhabit those hills with their inner rebellion against suppression — felt like a story that demanded to be told on a big canvas. For me, it wasn’t just about attempting a new genre, but also about exploring human emotion and survival in a different way. That challenge was very exciting.

What, according to you, are the USPs of Ghaati?
The biggest USPs are its rooted emotions and Anushka’s high-octane, action-oriented performance. It’s a powerful, emotional, and very cinematic experience.

How difficult was it for Anushka to do all the stunt sequences?
Some of the action scenes were physically demanding and filmed in tough terrains and mountainous locations. But Anushka gave them her all. We ensured safety was the top priority, but what impressed me most was her commitment. She never treated them as mere stunts — she lived those moments as Sheelavathi.

Where do you place Ghaati in your repertoire?
Very high. Because it’s an emotional story told in a larger-than-life manner. It combines my love for raw human drama with a strong action and musical canvas.
