Manufacturing company Carborundum Universal Limited (CUMI) had received complaints about an increase in counterfeit products under its brand name in the cutting blades sector, including Speed, Sandmaster, and Boxer. In collaboration with Lancer Network Limited, an investigating agency, the police conducted raids in Chennai on two targets associated with the suspected supplier of the counterfeit products.
The police arrested the supplier, identified as Naresh Kumar, who operates an outlet in Sowcarpet. He was found selling counterfeit products under CUMI’s brand names. Investigations revealed that he also had a godown located 500 meters from the outlet. Upon further inspection, a concealed area was discovered behind a plywood wall, with a gate leading to the terrace, where a large-scale manufacturing setup was uncovered.
Over 7,000 counterfeit CUMI-branded products were seized from the premises. The accused was arrested.
