Police arrests another accused in Delhi CM Rekha Gupta’s attack during Jan Sunwai event

Tahseen Syed, the accused who has been arrested in relation to the incident, is a friend of the prime accused individual, Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji.
According to the agency report, Tahseen Syed was brought to Delhi from Rajkot in Gujarat on Friday for further questioning. The police also made him confront Khimji to verify the facts of the case.
Syed was taken into the Delhi Police‘s custody on Sunday, 24 August 2025, according to the agency report citing the officials.
What is Tahseen Syed’s link to the case?
As per the agency report, Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji had allegedly sent a video of CM Rekha Gupta’s house to Tahseen Syed, and Syed also sent him ₹2,000 while being in constant contact with him before the alleged attack on the chief minister.
Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimji is an auto driver who has five cases of assault and possession of liquor between 2017 and 2024 at Rajkot’s Bhaktinagar police station. There have been other preventive actions also taken against him, said the officials, according to the agency report.
Delhi police are also questioning more than 10 people, including Khimji’s friends and family members, in Rajkot. The police have also seized the accused’s mobile phone and are following the leads that have emerged.
“If required, we can also take him to his native place in Rajkot as part of the investigation,” a person aware of the development told the news agency.
A court allocated Khimji five days of police custody. According to Rajkot Police, he went to Delhi from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on 19 August to take part in the protest against the Supreme Court’s ruling on stray dogs.
What happened at the Jan Sunwai programme?
On the morning of Wednesday, 20 August 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party appointed Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta was attacked at the Jan Sunwai programme.
According to the media reports, the attacker slapped the chief minister and also pulled her hair.
“A person attacked CM Rekha Gupta during Jan Sunvai today. The accused has been nabbed by the Delhi Police and is being questioned,” said the Chief Minister’s officer in an official statement on Wednesday.
People at the CMO privy to the incident of the attack on the chief minister told Mint that Rekha Gupta was interacting with citizens at her official residence and listening to their grievances when a man surged forward and attacked her. However, the motives behind this attack still remain unknown.
