20 years imprisonment for sexual assault


The Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Cases has awarded 20 years imprisonment to a youth for sexually assaulting a minor girl.

According to prosecution, M. Shanmugaiah, 36, of Therkku Konarkottai sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl in a place under the jurisdiction of All Women Police, Kovilpatti in 2019. The All Women Police subsequently arrested Shanmugaiah under the POCSO Act.

Special Court for POCSO cases judge Preetha awarded 20 year imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on Tuesday.

The Judge also ordered the government to give a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the victim.
