Google Maps may have shown the way, but a tanker driver in Ahmedabad reportedly discovered that the suggested route was not exactly designed for his vehicle after his heavy truck became stuck on a narrow bridge above the Akhbarnagar underpass late Monday night.
The incident occurred around 2 am when the tanker driver, while trying to reach his destination, allegedly followed a route suggested by Google Maps. Instead of directing him towards the underpass, the navigation route reportedly took the tanker onto the bridge.
Tanker Gets Stuck On Narrow Bridge
According to a police official, the bridge is primarily meant for light vehicles and has a narrow carriageway that was unsuitable for the heavy tanker.
The vehicle became stuck on the bridge, causing traffic to back up on the stretch for more than an hour as other vehicles began piling up behind it.
The driver eventually managed to reverse the tanker and clear the road, allowing traffic movement to resume.
No Injuries Reported
Police said no major accident or injuries were reported in the incident.
The episode, however, highlighted a familiar problem with navigation apps: a route may be technically possible on a map, but that does not necessarily mean it is suitable for every type or size of vehicle.
