Two held for extortion bid, snatching car

The Puzhal police have arrested two persons for attempting to extort money from a real-estate businessman and snatching his car.

According to the police, the complainant, M. Dillibabu, 40, of Thiruvottiyur, a real-estate businessman, began avoiding an acquaintance, Surya, who started getting involved in criminal activities. On August 17 afternoon, when Dillibabu was driving to Puthagaram in his car, four persons, including Surya followed him on motorbikes and waylaid him. Brandishing a knife, the gang demanded ₹5 lakh. As Dillibabu did not have the money, the gang snatched the car and fled the spot.

Based on his complaint, the Puzhal police arrested two suspects — Tamil alias Tamilarasan, 33, of Pulianthope and Velu alias Thangavel, 32, of Villivakkam. The police have also launched a manhunt to nab two more accused, including Surya.
