The State government has launched a probe into allegations made by Sheikh Dastagiri, an accused-turned-approver in the 2019 murder case of former MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy.

A team led by Kurnool Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil began the inquiry at Kadapa Central Prison. Dastagiri had alleged that Devireddy Chaitanya Reddy, son of co-accused Devireddy Sivasankar Reddy, entered the prison in 2023 under the pretext of conducting a medical camp. He claimed Chaitanya Reddy offered him ₹20 crore to shield the accused and threatened to kill him if he refused.

Following these revelations, the RIMS police registered a case and launched an investigation. After the change of government, the NDA administration constituted a four-member team to probe the allegations afresh and establish the facts. As part of the inquiry, Mr. Patil’s team has summoned former jail Superintendent Prakash and other officials on duty at the time. Dastagiri is also expected to be questioned during the investigation.
