Man killed by wild elephant in the Nilgiris


A 33-year-old man was killed by a wild elephant in Kil Kotagiri in the Nilgiris on Friday (August 8, 2025) evening, the forest department confirmed.

The deceased was identified as B. Karamadai, a resident of Vagapannai in Kengarai-II village. He had purchased essential items for the house and was returning home when he was attacked and killed by a wild elephant. His body was retrieved and sent for post-mortem.

On Sunday, the forest department said following the completion of the autopsy, the next of kin of Mr. Karamadai was awarded ₹50,000 as interim compensation.
