“Wonderfully written”: Deep Cover cast credits sharp script for genre-bending fun

There’s a new undercover mission, and it’s hilariously off-script. Prime Video’s upcoming action-comedy Deep Cover is already creating buzz for its genre-bending premise. With a plot that sends three improv actors undercover into London’s criminal underworld, the film doesn’t just promise action, it delivers absurdity with a straight face. And according to stars Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed, it’s the witty, well-crafted writing that makes all the difference. Both actors credit the script, penned by Ben Ashenden and Alex Owen, for blending character-driven comedy with undercover mayhem in a way that keeps things fresh, fast, and funny.

Hailing the film’s brilliant writing, Nick Mohammed, who plays the role of Hugh, says, “There were so many little moments in the show, and it is just so wonderfully written or adapted by Ben and Alex, who wrote this sharp script. Everything’s in the writing. It was all there already.” Sharing more insights about the film, Orlando Bloom, who transforms from washed-up actor Marlon into chaotic gangster Roach, continued, “It was all sort of executed because the writing was so good. The premise was so funny. You know, it’s easy to take yourself too seriously, right? But it’s very funny when you see somebody taking themselves too seriously. And so that was an easy win for me and my character.

Marlon is just like this out-of-work actor, and then he turns into Roach, this Mancunian lunatic who is deep cover and takes it all too seriously.” Bloom further added, “And Nick’s Hugh, he’s like the squire, we used to call him that, and he’s like the most dangerous, but the most unlikely dangerous. The premise and the way that the script came together was just excellent.”

Directed by Tom Kingsley, written by Derek Connolly, Colin Trevorrow and Ben Ashenden, Deep Cover stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom, and Nick Mohammed in the lead roles. The wildly original action comedy will stream exclusively on Prime Video from June 12 in English and Hindi.
