A native of Annur in Coimbatore district, Mr. Kandasamy was serving his first term as MLA. He was elected to the Assembly in 2021, winning the Valparai seat by a margin of 12,223 votes and polled 71,672 votes, defeating CPI’s M. Arumugham, who contested as part of the DMK alliance and secured 59,449 votes. According to sources, his health deteriorated in the early hours of Saturday, and he died later in the day. His body is being taken to Annur, his native place, for the final rites.
EPS, Stalin, and Governor condole death
AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami condoled his death. In a statement, he said Mr. Kandasamy had served the party with deep commitment and loyalty to its leadership. He had earlier held several key organisational roles, including District Secretary of the Students’ Wing and the MGR Youth Wing. He also served as Vice-President of the Coimbatore District Panchayat before being elected as MLA.
Mr. Palaniswami and the ADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Committee coordinator O. Paneerselvam extended their condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also expressed their condolences.
In a post on X, Mr. Ravi said: “Deeply saddened by the passing of Thiru. T.K. Amul Kandasamy, Member of the Legislative Assembly from Valparai. His dedication to public service and commitment to social welfare will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Valparai. Om Shanti!”
In his condolence message, Mr. Stalin said: “I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Valparai MLA Mr. Amul Kandasamy. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Valparai Assembly constituency, and the members of the AIADMK.”
