
The Tours and Travels Association of Andhra (TTAA) has called for a ‘boycott’ on sale or promotion of any tourism packages to Turkey and Azerbaijan from May 16. The boycott call will be in force till a green signal was received by the Government of India, TTAA president K. Vijay Mohan said in a statement.
Andhra Pradesh sends around 8,000 passengers to Azerbaijan and most of the travellers from A.P. include the younger generation, and MICE and A.P. contribute about ₹600 to ₹750 crore by cost of tour package and shopping.
About 3,000 passengers travel to Turkey, i.e., Istanbul, Cappodocia and Antalya. Istanbul, a historical and cultural hub, while Antalya, a coastal city, also saw significant tourism numbers, and Cappadocia, known for its unique rock. Most of the Travellers from A.P. include youngsters, senior citizens, MICE and weddings and A.P. contributes about ₹300 crore towards cost of package, Visa and shopping.
The Association took the ‘boycott’ call as Turkey and Azerbaijan supported Pakistan against India’s fight on terrorism.
The ground-handling licence of Celebi, a Turkish company which handles ground handling services to various International and Domestic Airlines operating out of Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Bengaluru, Kannur and Hyderabad Airports, has been revoked by the Indian government. The Ministry of Civil Aviation cites national security concerns.
The Association in a separate letter wrote to Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo Airlines, asking him to reconsider ties with Turkish Airlines and requested him to rethink of suspending all ties and agreement with Turkish Airlines.
