
The Tamil Nadu government has reconstituted the State Consumer Protection Council with the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies as its chairperson. There are 22 members in the panel, including elected representatives Vellore MP D.M. Kathir Anand, Thanjavur MP S. Murasoli, Tambaram MLA S.R. Raja and Vikravandi MLA Anniyur Siva.
The Secretary of Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection Department, the Commissioner of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, the Registrar of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, the Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Generation Distribution Corporation Limited are also members in the panel.
The State-level Co-ordinator, Indian Oil Corporation, the Assistant General Manager, State-level Bankers Committee, the Deputy Director of BIS-Southern Regional Office, the Commissioner, Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, the president of Erode Consumer Protection Centre, the president of Consumer Protection and Civic Rights Association, the president of Consumer Awareness Federation of India, the president of Consumer Research Education, Action, Training Empowerment (CREATE) Trustee are also members.
The president of Nugarvor Pathukapu Nalasangam, Tindivanam, V. Sathyanarayanan of Cauvery Delta Farmers Group, the president of Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the president of Tamil Nadu Hotels Association, the president, Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG)-Trustee and the principal of Ethiraj Women’s Arts and Science College, Chennai are the other members of the panel.
