Sudarshan Venu, MD of TVS Motor Company, in an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18, said, “In Norton, we will launch towards the end of this year, and will start phasing in the products towards the end of this year and early next year.”
Norton will target India’s upper-middle-class and affluent buyers who purchase high-end bikes and sports cars, positioning the brand in the premium and luxury segment.
Venu stated, “We will have a differentiated retail strategy in India covering Norton and possibly some of the premium TVS vehicles as well.” Premium Norton stores will open in major Indian cities in the first phase, offering the full Norton range.
Production is expected to be in India and the UK, with some models incorporating more value-added components from India. The India-UK Free Trade Agreement will support the export of components to the UK and finished bikes to India, with an initial capacity of 10,000 bikes per month. “They are all in advanced stages of development,” Venu added.
The Norton global design team collaborates with TVS’s India team to combine British design with TVS’s engineering expertise. Venu noted, “We have a good leadership team now at Norton, with very good designers, engineers, and a lot of homegrown talent from TVS in India, which brings a great mix in terms of the Britishness and the uniqueness of Norton.”
