Skoda’s Student-Built Pickup: Skoda has revealed the L&K 130, a pickup concept based on the Superb Combi. Developed by 28 students from the Skoda Vocational School, it celebrates 130 years of the brand. The one-off vehicle, designed as a support car for bicycle races, will debut at the Tour de France on July 5, 2025. It showcases the creativity and skill of young trainees.

Unique Cargo Design: The L&K 130 features an electrically extendable cargo bed. This allows easy loading of two bicycles on custom racks. A third bike can be carried on a roof-mounted rack. The innovative design ensures quick access during races. The students modified the rear to create a pickup-like loading area, tailored for professional cycling events.

Sliding Door Innovation: A standout feature is the passenger-side rear door, which slides backwards. This modification allows safe and easy access to the rear compartment during races. The door has two locking mechanisms and handles, enhancing functionality. This design ensures the vehicle supports cyclists efficiently without disrupting the race flow.

Bold Exterior Styling: The L&K 130 sports a red, black, and gold livery, honouring Skoda’s heritage. It features a backlit grille and 19-inch Supernova alloy wheels. Special Laurin & Klement logos are displayed throughout. The unique colour scheme and badging pay tribute to the brand’s bicycle-making origins from 1895.

Customised Interior Features: Inside, the L&K 130 has a bold colour scheme matching the exterior. The seats are embroidered with “130 years.” A cool box replaces the rear bench, and a storage net holds small items. An additional dashboard screen and integrated radio system provide race support functionality.

Hybrid Powertrain Specs: The concept is powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system. It delivers 201 BHP and uses a 25.7 kWh battery. This setup offers over 100 km of electric-only range, allowing silent operation during races, which is ideal for supporting cyclists.

Student Project Milestone: This is the tenth Student Car project from the Skoda Vocational School. The L&K 130 is the first to use the Superb Combi as its base. The project took over 2,000 hours to complete, showcasing the dedication and technical skills of the 28 students involved.

Tour de France Debut: The L&K 130 will be showcased at the 112th Tour de France, running from July 5 to 27, 2025. Skoda has supported the race for over 20 years. The concept highlights the brand’s commitment to cycling, rooted in its 1895 bicycle-making origins.

Honouring Brand Heritage: The L&K 130 commemorates 130 years since Václav Laurin and Václav Klement founded the company. The name and design elements reflect their legacy as bicycle manufacturers. The project connects Skoda’s past with its innovative present, crafted by the next generation of talent.

No Production Plans: While the L&K 130 is a functional and creative concept, it remains a one-off. Skoda has no plans to produce this pickup version of the Superb Combi. The project serves as a training exercise for students and a tribute to the brand’s cycling history.
