The night sky is set to light up with the ‘Sample Vedikettu’ on Sunday. Set for 7 p.m., the spectacle promises to give a glimpse of the main fireworks showdown of the Thrissur Pooram.
The excitement is high and the crowds are expected to be massive. With both devaswoms, Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu, going head-to-head, the competition will be fierce and the skies electric.
This year, Thiruvambady will fire the opening salvo. Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu have come up with themes inspired by blockbuster movie titles. ‘Marco,’ ‘Bazooka,’ and ‘Empuran,’ will slice through the night, painting the sky in various shades.
There will be high-speed golden comets, lightning fast spark showers, and bird call-like whistling fireworks that seem to chirp midair. Shimmering fountains, and crackling sounds will together to create a symphony of sound and colour.
The craftspersons
Behind the spectacle, veterans like Mundathikode Satheesh and Binoy Jacob are orchestrating the display for Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu respectively. Their signature fireworks, meticulously designed and choreographed, promise a sensory overload like no other.
Digging for the launch pits at Thekkinkad Maidanam is already under way, with tarpaulin covers shielding them from unpredictable summer rains. There will be three rounds of fireworks at the Thissur Pooram — sample fireworks on Sunday, main fireworks at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, and Pakal Vedikkettu on Wednesday afternoon, followed by the ‘Upacharam Chollal’ ceremony.
