Electric Icon Returns: Renault has revealed the 5 Turbo 3E, a new electric car honouring the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 rally cars from the 1980s. This modern version swaps the old petrol engine for a fully electric system, bringing a classic name into the future.

Custom-Made Base: The Renault 5 Turbo 3E sits on a specially designed platform built from scratch. It uses a rear-wheel drive setup, unlike many electric cars that power all wheels. Two motors, one in each rear wheel, deliver 268 bhp each, combining for a total output of 536 bhp, making it a standout in Renault’s lineup.

Quick and Fast: This car can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in less than 3.5 seconds, according to Renault’s claims. It also hits a top speed of 270 kph. Despite its 1,450 kg weight—equal to the standard Renault 5 EV—it performs strongly thanks to its powerful motors and larger battery pack.

Long-Distance Power: A 70 kWh battery pack powers the 5 Turbo 3E, offering a driving range of more than 400 km based on the WLTP testing standard. This range suits both daily trips and longer journeys. The battery size exceeds the 52 kWh unit found in the standard Renault 5 EV, giving it an edge for distance.

Fast Charge Ready: The car features an 800-volt electrical system, allowing it to use DC fast chargers up to 350 kW. This means the battery can charge from 15% to 80% in just 15 minutes. For slower AC charging, an onboard 11 kW charger fully powers the battery in about eight hours, ideal for home use.

Standout Looks: The 5 Turbo 3E sports square LED headlamps blending into the bonnet, a slim front strip with three sections, and extra square lights now serving as LED daytime runners. A front splitter, bonnet air vent, side bumper intakes, rear wing scoops, and a diffuser below the bumper improve airflow and stability. Large 20-inch wheels fit into wide arches, completing the bold design.

Rally-Inspired Inside: Inside, the car has bucket seats with six-point harnesses for safety and support. Carbon fibre parts keep the weight low, while Alcantara covers the seats and dashboard. A vertical handbrake mimics rally cars, and a partial roll cage adds structure. Two screens—10.1 inches and 10.25 inches—show driving data and entertainment, echoing the original 5 Turbo’s dashboard style.

Limited Run Planned: Renault will produce only 1,980 units of the 5 Turbo 3E, a number marking the 1980 debut of the original model. Buyers can choose colours tied to the classic cars, like Rouge Grenade or the 1982 Tour de Corse rally look, plus new modern options. Sales will cover Europe, the Middle East, Japan, and Australia, with orders opening soon and deliveries set for 2027.
