Operation Cheyutha: 12 more Maoist cadres and militia members from Chhattisgarh surrender before police in Telangana

Amid the volatile situation in south Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, a total of 12 cadres and militia members of the banned CPI (Maoist) from the conflict-ridden areas of the neighbouring State surrendered before the police in Telangana’s Kothagudem town on Thursday.

They turned themselves in before Bhadradri Kothagudem Superintendent of Police B. Rohit Raju at the district police headquarters.

According to the police, the surrendered Maoists include two Divisional Committee Members, four Area Committee Members, two each party members, militia members and Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) members.

An interim aid of ₹25,000 each will be disbursed to the 12 surrendered Maoists immediately and the remaining amount will be transferred into their bank accounts in the forms cheques as part of economic support.

So far this year, as many as 294 Maoists of various ranks surrendered before the police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. An overwhelming number of these surrendered Maoists hail from neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

Police said the effective implementation of Telangana government’s ‘Operation Cheyutha’ programme for the rehabilitation of the surrendered Maoists is encouraging the underground cadre of the proscribed outfit to shun the violent path and return to the mainstream.
