Days the Supreme Court turned down his apology and formed an SIT to probe the case against him, Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah on Friday (May 23, 2025) issued another public apology and termed his remarks on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi a “linguistic mistake”.
“I was deeply saddened and disturbed by the gruesome massacre that took place in Pahalgam earlier. I have always had immense love for my nation and respect for the Indian Army. The words spoken by me have hurt the community, religion and countrymen, it was my linguistic mistake,” Mr. Shah said in a video statement on X.
“My intention was not to hurt or offend any religion, caste or community. I sincerely apologise to the entire Indian Army, Sister Colonel Sofiya and all the countrymen for the words I said inadvertently and once again with folded hands I apologise,” the Tribal Affairs Minister further said.
SC forms 3-member SIT to probe FIR against Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah
The Supreme Court has ordered the formation of a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the FIR against Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah for alleged derogatory remarks made against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who had briefed the media during Operation Sindoor. A Bench led by Justice Surya Kant directed the SIT to be formed by May 20 and to include IPS officers from the Madhya Pradesh cadre who are currently serving outside the state. The team will be headed by an IG-rank officer and include one woman officer. Justice Kant described the remarks as “crass” and criticised the lack of prompt action from the State. The court has called this a “litmus test” for the State government. The next hearing is scheduled for May 28.
