Man from Thoothukudi killed as speeding TNSTC bus overturns in Madurai

A man was killed and six others were injured when a speeding Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus, headed for Theni from Madurai, overturned near Valandur in the early hours of Wednesday (June 25, 2025). The deceased, a passenger in the bus, has been identified as C. Manimaran, 45.

The police said the bus left Arapalayam in Madurai city at round 12.30 a.m. R. Raja, 56, of Allinagaram, who was behind the wheel, lost control of the speeding bus as it approached Aiyapatti junction at around 1 a.m.

The bus overturned, and Manimaran, of Kulasekarapattinam, who was grievously injured in the accident, was killed on the spot.

Six other passengers who sustained injuries were rushed to the government hospital in Usilampatti for treatment. They were treated as outpatients.

Valandur police are investigating the case.
