“It’s no small thing that a Mexican is hosting such an important show,” Luna said, adding that it was happening amid “authoritarian policies of Donald Trump.”
The monologue came as nationwide protests erupted in response to increased ICE raids and the recent deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles under directives from former President Trump. Luna addressed the fear and uncertainty immigrants face, stating, “Many people are feeling persecuted… far too many people live in fear of taking their kids to school or going to work.”
He described his deep connection to Los Angeles and how it was immigrants, and children of immigrants, who helped him feel at home. “Nobody leaves their land unless their survival depends on it,” he said.

Luna criticised the U.S. government’s failure to recognise the contributions of immigrants, both documented and undocumented. “They build this country, they feed it, they teach its children, and they pay taxes—around $96.7 billion in 2022 alone,” he stated. “But that’s something the Trump administration doesn’t want you to know.”
Calling for change, Luna urged viewers to pressure lawmakers for reform and support immigrants. He ended his monologue by encouraging donations to organizations such as Public Counsel and Kids in Need of Defense. “This is what your neighbors really deserve — to be fully welcome in this country where they already belong,” he said.
