The Dallas Wings were in “Sin City” to cross swords against the Las Vegas Aces in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup clash on Friday. Entering the contest with a league-worst 1-10 record, the Wings were desperate to turn their season around, while the Aces came in with a middling 4-4 record.
Dallas rolled out a starting five of Paige Bueckers, DiJonai Carrington, Arike Ogunbowale, Luisa Geiselsoder and Myisha Hines-Allen. Meanwhile, the Aces were without their superstar A’ja Wilson, prompting a shuffled lineup featuring Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, Jewell Loyd, Elizabeth Kitley, and Kia Stokes.
The opening quarter was a tightly contested affair, with both teams trading baskets through the early minutes. However, the Aces began to pull away late in the period, thanks to an offensive spark from Loyd, who poured in eight quick points. Young added five of her own, helping Las Vegas close the quarter with a 24-18 advantage heading into the second.
Loyd maintained her offensive rhythm in the second quarter, adding another eight points to her tally. On the Wings’ side, Bueckers continued to have a tough time finding her shot, while Ogunbowale caught fire and erupted for 16 first-half points. Despite Ogunbowale’s surge, it was the Aces who carried a 49-40 lead into halftime.
