All Women Federation (Anaithu Pengal Kootamaippu), comprising of several women organisations, have urged the State government to convene a special assembly session to prevent and reduce crimes against women and children.
The federation had a special meeting at Rajarathinam Stadium on Tuesday to celebrate the justice rendered to the victims of the chilling case of blackmail and sexual assault in Pollachi and laud the victims who had come forward to depose in the court without hesitation. The meeting was presided over by writer Jeeva Sundari Bala from National Federation of Indian Women, P. Suganthi, national vice president of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and others.
The federation members also sought a special law to protect witnesses in sexual offence cases and that the trial in criminal cases such as rape should be conducted in time-bound manner.
