In a social media post, he alleged that the cat was handled by “untrained” staff, including some from other States. He said on Sunday that his wife and daughter had taken the animal to the hospital to administer sedation before ‘grooming’. On being informed that the cat was a little aggressive, the staff tied it using a thin rope and took it away to be sedated. A few minutes later, they were shown its lifeless body and were told the death was due to cardiac arrest, he alleged.
Responding to the incident, a doctor at the hospital said that the cat was initially taken to another pet grooming centre for nail clipping. It was subsequently brought to the hospital for sedation before further ‘grooming’. After being sedated, the cat’s condition turned unstable, and it died despite being given CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), the doctor said. He added that police personnel had visited the hospital following the complaint, and the staff had assured full cooperation with the probe.
A staff member at the hospital said a harness had been used to prevent the cat from falling off the anaesthesia table.
The police said further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report of the cat.
