
Top truck makers like Tata Motors and Ashok Leyland brace for an unlikely competitor: Indian Railways.

The 1,506 kilometre rail route connecting Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) to Dadri, dubbed the Western dedicated freight corridor (WDFC), is likely to open for traffic in the first half of 2026. The corridor with its 14 major stations and over 35 feeder routes in-between, will save transportation cost and time by 25%, making it an attractive option over road freight transportation.
