27,000-kg ration rice seized from lorry in Karaikudi

Police seized 27,000 kg ration rice from a lorry at Karaikudi on Saturday night. The police on patrol duty at Patharakudi near Karaikudi stopped a lorry for inspection.  They found ration rice which were collected from various Public Distribution System (PDS) shops in different areas and taken to a private rice mill at Pallathur for polishing and resale at a higher price.

The police arrested Arunpandi, 26, of Patharakudi. The seized rice and the lorry driver would be handed over to Civil Supplies – CID officers, police said.
