The State government has sanctioned ₹ 103.24 crore more for the ailing Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said on Friday that ₹73.24 crore was intended for the payment of pension and ₹30 crore as financial assistance for other requirements. Over the past five weeks alone, the government had authorised the release of ₹245.86 crore for the KSRTC, he said.
The Left Democratic Front government, which came to power in 2021, had so far provided close to ₹6,307 crore to the transport utility. In the 2024-25 financial year alone, the support was to the tune of ₹1,612 crore, according to Mr. Balagopal.
The KSRTC was in the news earlier this week when Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar announced a comprehensive insurance scheme for 22,095 permanent employees. Being implemented in collaboration with State Bank of India, the insurance scheme which offers coverage of up to ₹ 1 crore, will come into effect from June 4.
The transport utility is also planning to turn fully computerised after May 22, Mr. Ganesh Kumar had said.
